The Western Front Association (WFA) is an organisation formed with the aim of furthering interest in The Great War of 1914-1918. Established in 1980 by noted military historian John Giles, the WFA has grown over the years to some 6,000 members worldwide.

The Dorset & South Wiltshire Branch is one of 47 affiliated regional branches of the WFA in the UK and through this website we aim to keep you informed of our various branch activities.

At our monthly branch meetings we offer a programme of quality speakers to cater for a wide range of interest in The Great War - from the battlefields to the home front, from the conduct of armies to the personal experience of individuals. Our focus is not limited to a specific branch of the armed forces, to a specific theatre of war or simply to the British and Empire involvement.

Additional events, such as a battlefield tour, local day visits and attendance at regional events and seminars provide more opportunities to further knowledge and generate interest. The branch also operates a School Prize Award Scheme and has an interest in various War Memorial projects. We also aim to provide a source of local information on the Great War including the part played by local men and women.

We welcome anyone with an interest in the Great War, whether you are a WFA member or not. You are guaranteed a warm, friendly reception and a lively atmosphere where people with common interests in The Great War can share experience and information, as well as benefiting from high quality speakers.

So, if you are in the Dorset, Wiltshire or West Hampshire area or even further afield why not come along and visit us. Please check out the 2012 Events page for more information on the speakers programme.

The Dorset and South Wiltshire branch of the WFA operates as a non-profit making charity and relies on donations in order to meet its running costs and to achieve its object and key functions. Without these donations, the branch would not exist. If you wish to contribute to keeping the branch running you may send a donation via PayPal or by cheque by clicking on the donate links to the right.

Membership of the WFA is at national level but you do not need to be a WFA member to attend our branch meetings or activities. All are welcome.

If you wish to find out more about the WFA including the benefits of becoming a member then please visit the national Western Front Association website.

Join the Western Front Association
The Western Front Association was formed with the aim of furthering interest in the period 1914-1918, to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all those who served their countries in France and Flanders and their own countries during The Great War. It does not seek to justify or glorify war. It is not a re-enactment society, nor is it commercially motivated. It is entirely non-political. The object of The Association is to educate the public in the history of The Great War with particular reference to the Western Front. Applications for membership are welcomed from anyone with a like mind.
